LLOYD NECK [U.S.A. 2007]
"Lloyd Neck" is Benedict Campbell’s senior film at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. The 16-minute suburban romantic triangle concerns a young girl who idolizes her older brother’s photographer friend, who clearly has eyes for her brother. Beautifully photographed in 35 mm by cinematographer Serena Kuo, Campbell gets wonderfully naturalistic performances from his leads Carina Goldbach, Aaron Michael Davies, and Brian Dare.

MIROIRS D'ÉTÉ [Canada 2006/2007]
Lovely Canadian short film about a young man struggling with his sexual orientation (and finally accepting it). Xavier Dolan ("J'ai tué ma mère") plays the young lad who is on summer vacation at some beautiful lake with his Mom and Dad and little bro. He's disgusted with his parents having sex and feels left out when all of his male friends have sex with girls. He magically feels drawn to the neighbour house, where a gay couple lives.

Jørgen lives abroad, but every summer he comes back to Denmark with his wife. He invites, as usual, his neighbours and their teenager son,Thomas, for dinner at his place. Only, this time there is a strange tension in the air between the adults. After dinner, Jørgen and Thomas go to the beach for a walk. They discover that both have secret problems, and the fact they cannot talk about them is creating great stress. As they disclose their secrets to each other, a friendship starts. But through the course of the next two summers their relationship develops in a way they would never have expected.

At a Los Angeles high school, Sean, who's deaf, runs cross country. He's the victim of some locker-room teasing that a teammate, Derek, puts an end to. In a stab at friendship, Sean stops by Derek's apartment to invite him to run with him; Derek invites him in. They communicate writing notes, and not everything goes smoothly. Then Sean and Derek exchange a glance in which Sean discloses his attraction to Derek. How will Derek respond? What can come of this?
